Microsoft has been shipping Copilot into Dynamics 365 Sales at a real pace. The interesting question is which part your team should use first.
You open the forecast an hour before the pipeline review and start doing the math in your head. Two deals show a close date that already passed. One sits in a stage nobody has touched since last quarter. You know which numbers you will defend out loud and which ones you will quietly discount.
The Hour Everyone Is Trying to Find
Your reps know the data matters. They also know that writing up a good call takes fifteen minutes they do not have, and that nobody has ever been paid for a tidy opportunity record. That is not a discipline problem. It is an hours problem, and it has been the same one for thirty years. What has changed is that some of those hours are now recoverable.
Where the Week Actually Goes
The average seller spends 40% of the workweek on selling activities, and 17% on data entry alone, close to a full workday every two weeks. Those numbers come from Salesforce’s 2026 State of Sales report, which surveyed 4,050 sales professionals across 22 countries.
Read it the other way. Six of every ten hours you pay for go to something other than being in front of a buyer. Hiring more reps does not change that ratio, because it is built into how the work flows. Changing what the system does for the rep is what changes it.
Why Good Intentions Lose to the Calendar
People are interrupted roughly every two minutes, about 275 times a day, by meetings, email and notifications. That finding comes from Microsoft’s Work Trend Index, which paired anonymized Microsoft 365 signals with a survey of 31,000 knowledge workers across 31 markets.
CRM hygiene is exactly the task that loses to an interruption. It matters, it is never urgent, and nothing visibly breaks the day it slips. Any fix that depends on a rep finding a quiet half hour competes with all of that. A fix that does the work alongside them does not.
What Better Data Is Actually Worth
In that same Salesforce study, 46% of sales professionals said data quality issues hurt sales performance. Not reporting. Performance. Which means the upside runs the same direction: current records show up as faster follow-up, cleaner handoffs, and a forecast your team stops discounting in their heads.
The Fixes Most Teams Try First
Most teams have been through two or three rounds of this. Required fields, and reps learn which value clears the validation fastest. A Friday hygiene block, which survives about five weeks. A dashboard flagging stale opportunities, which becomes another list to work. None of those are bad ideas. They all solve it the same way though, by asking a person who is short on hours to spend more of them.
Microsoft Has Been Building Toward This
The more interesting move is to let the system do part of the work instead of waiting for the update, and that is now a real option. Microsoft has been investing heavily in Copilot across Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365, shipping on a fast cadence rather than once a year. Its agentic Copilot Cowork only reached general availability in June 2026.
Three things are worth telling apart, because all three get called Copilot. The assistant inside Dynamics 365 Sales summarizes a record, drafts the follow-up and preps your rep for the meeting. Copilot Cowork reads across your Dynamics data and your Microsoft 365 content and hands back a finished piece of work, such as a renewal briefing deck. And agents are the layer that actually acts, creating and updating records under supervision. Microsoft documents seven of them for Dynamics 365 Sales today.
That pace is the opportunity, and it means the capability you evaluated eighteen months ago is not the capability available today.
The Three Questions We Keep Getting
Almost every conversation we have had with Dynamics 365 Sales customers this year lands on some version of these:
- We are already paying for Copilot. Where does it give a rep the most time back first?
- Which part assists, which part analyzes, and which part can actually update a record? One word is doing three jobs.
- What has to be true in our environment before a rep can use this on a Monday morning?
We are not going to answer them here. We are going to answer them live, in a working Dynamics environment, with the screens up.
Where We’re Answering Them
On Tuesday, September 15 at 12 pm ET / 9 am PT, Microsoft and Western Computer are running a 30-minute session: AI in Your CRM: Copilot Cowork Inside Dynamics 365 Sales. Michael Rich walks through what Copilot does inside Dynamics 365 Sales today. Maria Leuch from Microsoft opens with where this sits on the roadmap. Ben Bolte hosts and takes questions live, including the licensing ones.
Western Computer has spent nearly 40 years on Microsoft Dynamics work, with 1,750+ implementations behind us. That experience is why we spend as much time on the turning-on part as on the capability itself. Good features ship all the time. Adopted ones change a quarter.
